15th Annual U.S. Professional & Amateur Golf Championship
Saturday & Sunday, February 15 & 16, 2025
A cold front coming through Tampa brought Scottish style winds that howled through the fairways at the 15th US Professional & Amateur Hickory Championship at historic Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club making scoring extremely difficult. In a see saw round a two-shot swing on the 17th hole saw Mike Stevens take a one-shot lead over Carlos De Barros as he held on to win the John Shippen Cup that honors Americas first golf pro. Eddie Peckels defended his crown winning the Oscar Bunn Trophy. Bunn a Shinnecock Indian played in the first U.S. Open along with Shippen in the first Open back in 1895. In the Heritage Division, Joe Garcia prevailed in his first appearance in the annual event. Congratulations to all the players and a big thanks to the TT staff and the Temple Terrace Preservation Society.
In the Saturday Hickory Hacker event remembering the 1925 Florida Open and Knickers Ball, the team of Boss, Jeffries, Dempsey & Roberts won a scorecard playoff over the team of De Barros, Hawes & Wonnell.
