Florida Hickory Golfer Rich Grula of Winter Park (below right), took Low Net Honors at the 2024 Chautauqua Hickory Classic, held March 16 – 17 in Defuniak Springs, Florida. Ted Kopec from Niceville, FL tied for honors in the Low Gross division but was edged out by Jimmy Wilkins (below left) in a scorecard playoff. Barb Kopec took honors for the Women’s division. Several other Florida Hickory Golfers made the trip and a good time seemed to be had by all!
This was the second edition of the event, organized by Steven Miller (above center) with assists from his wife and family. The venue was the the Eagle Springs Golf & Recreation Center which might have been short according to the yardage card, but featured immense waste areas, challenging forced carries, huge variations in elevation and beautiful but slow greens that made putting a challenge for all involved. The mid-March timing of this event makes it a perfect warm-up for Tad Moore’s Southern Hickory Four-Ball, which occurs every April in Birmingham, so perhaps we’ll see you there next year?
