Bill Geisler, president of the Society of Hickory Golfers and Florida Hickory Golfer mainstay, claimed the winner’s trophy in the 2017 National Hickory Championship (NHC). The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s St. Martins course was nicely suited to Bill’s game, which relied heavily on top-notch putting. Playing in the Open Division (no handicap counted), Geisler finished two rounds at the par 70 layout with a 157, three clear of second place champ Seth Lomison, of Pfafftown, North Carolina and seven shots ahead of third place Steve Simer of Madison, Wisconsin.
Mike Stevens, Captain of the FHG, finished in 7th in the Open Division with a 171.
In the Reserve Division (handicaps counted), Greg Smith of Madison Wisconsin, took home the honors with a 125. The complete results are available via this link – 2017_NHC_Results
With a return to the Oakhurst Links currently in doubt, NHC Czar Pete Georgiady seems to have found a favorable home for the tournament in the historic old course in Philadelphia. Congratulations to all on a fine outing for the 20th playing of the National Hickory Championship.
