August 21-22, 2023 – Dubsdread Golf Course, Orlando
The Florida Hickory Golfers are pleased to announce the dates and location for the Third Annual Florida Hickory Open conducted by the Florida State Golf Association. Orlando’s Dubsdread GC is one of the best run municipal courses in the state. Opened in 1924 and designed by Tom Bendelow, it is a great hickory venue.
Many well-known golfers, Patty Berg, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Babe Zaharias played Dubsdread in the ’40s and ’50s, and the course hosted the Orlando Open from 1945-47. In the final round of the inaugural Orlando Open in 1945, Ben Hogan shot a four-under-par 67 for a four-round total of 270. Hogan provided a lot of excitement for the gallery of over 5,000 on the 471-yard par five fourth hole after reaching the green in two shots and sinking a 20-footer for eagle three.
